Welcome!Welcome!
Retask is a very simple task tracking tool. in the future, integrated to do list management will be included, with per-project control.
Start with the quick start page to get a fast feel for Retask's basic usage and operation.
Also, make sure you read the bugs page before using this version, to know about any issues which might affect you and before you do something you might regret.
1. Retask Concepts | |
1.1 Projects
Projects simply define a scope to a set of related tasks. Each project has a set of properties and has a task list.
You can colorize your projects, so as to make them easy to identify within the viewer.
1.2 Tasks
Tasks define an actual thing you must accomplish or a recurring type of job for that project.
These give a broad description what you are doing for fast referral.
1.3 Details
Details are actual description of what is special about this specific instance of a task.
Include information like client name or meeting time, or meeting subject, or meeting conclusions.
A good thing to know about Details, is that they do not get re-inscribed, if the last detail you entered is the same as the one you are about to enter. This means That whenever retask detects that you are working on something continually, it only updates the timing information for that same task detail.
2. UI | |
2.1 Task bar:
This is where you setup a task to enter.
Basically select your project, task and enter a detail for your current activity
Pressing the "Enter" key within the "details" text field will automatically go to task entry mode and present you with the task entry requestor, described below.
2.2 Task list:
This is the actual task viewer Here you can view your current tasks and interact with them too.
Pressing on a project name will pop up that project's property editor.
pressing on a task detail will fill-in the task bar to that detail's data. This allows you to easily reuse past tasks and switch to and from different projects on the fly.
You can also switch between looking at today's tasks or all tasks.
3. Command bar: | |
At the bottom is the command bar, here you can ask the application to do things.
4. Operation | |
Start up with the quick start page to get a fast feel for Retask's operation..
When you start up Retask, it simply opens up the main GUI and waits for you to add a task.
Enter relevant information in the project, task, and details. Press enter in details field or press on "log" command and the task entry requestor will popup. Tell it how much time you want to add to a new task (if any), press enter or other options presented in buttons.
Every 15 minutes, it will popup the main GUI again, basically expecting you to either confirm you are still working on the same thing, or change the task information or details.
If the task and details are the same, then it will automatically detect it and simply update the previous task's timing information.
5. resource file | |
Retasks saves ALL of its resources and db data within one simple file.
You should not have to Edit this file, but by looking at its rather easy to understand format, you can easily create a few projects in one go, or delete stuff, while the delete functions are not available within the GUI.
The resource file is called retask-rsrc.r and will be saved in the same dir as retask's binary.
It is a good idea to backup this file often, just in case there is an issue with this version of repack. so far a part from renaming a project, nothing should cause data loss.
